I don’t shop in high end stores, but some do have the Dylan Andrews UCLA basketball picture collage signature shirt in other words I will buy this reputation of being staffed by snobs, that if they think you can’t afford something, won’t give you good service. If you remember, Oprah had an incident in Paris where the assistant voiced her opinion that an item was too expensive for her! Because the first is a saying, I bet you can find it’s equivalents in many languages (I know about Russian, but I would bet a 20 that one can google it in French or German), and the second one is an opinion, at least I have never heard it used as a saying! People use sayings to convey familiarity, to de-escalate a conflict, to sign on a dotted line (as in what this particular pair would imply) — nowhere a business would agree to a customer being right, unless at the end of discussion they would feel that they are reached the point of negotiations and are ready to accept the offer! (Either because the sale is still profitable to them, or they are afraid of, say, a lawsuit, or worse, with some third-party thugs coming it to enforce it). But in either case it does not hurt to follow up with a familiar saying, however insincere it really is! I will not get into “in any free transaction both parties are satisfied”, but if, say, a European business really lived to the latter motto, you should leave ASAP and not come back, same as with their other customers…
